Tillman doesn’t fit the mold of the type of pitcher that we are looking to target in DFS. He has a low strikeout rate, he walks a few too many hitters, and he plays in a tough division. Tonight’s game against the Rays does feature a low over/under, but the Orioles are underdogs on the road. I’d rather pay up for his pitching counterpart, Matt Moore.

2015 12 4.67 16.6% 8.3% 39.2% 31.7% 26

Moore looks to be back to the pre-surgery Moore. In his four starts this season, he has a 3.22 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.2%. He draws a boom or bust matchup tonight against the Orioles, who have some good power in their lineup, but also strikeout out a high clip as a team. He provides nice upside at his price point. While I prefer to use Moore in tournaments, he is a viable SP2 as well.

Baltimore

The Orioles’ offense has really struggled so far in this series and it looks like it could be more of the same tonight against Matt Moore. The Orioles have the sixth lowest team total on the board. The right-handed bats could be worth a look in tournaments, but the Orioles can be avoided in cash games.

Tampa Bay

The Rays draw a fairly decent matchup against Chris Tillman, but they still have the ninth lowest team total on the board. They don’t hit right-handed pitching particularly well, but there are a couple of bats that do stand out here. For those BvP truthers out there, Evan Longoria is 17-for-51 with seven home runs off of Tillman in his career.

Moscot is not a pitcher that should be on your radar tonight. He has really struggled in his first five career starts, posting a SIERA well over 5.00 with a very low strikeout rate. He comes into tonight’s game as one of the largest underdogs on the board. Avoid Moscot and look to target some of the Mets’ hitters against him.

Harvey has allowed at least two earned runs and has struck out less than six hitters in each of his four starts this season. That doesn’t exactly give us a ton of confidence in him heading into tonight’s start, but I still have him ranked as the second best pitching option on the board. He draws a favorable matchup against the Reds and he gets to face them at home in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field. Look for him to snap not one, but both of those streaks tonight – meaning he will give up less than two earned runs and strikeout at least six batters.

Batter Grind Down

The Reds have not hit right-handed pitching well as a team and they draw one of the worst matchups on the board tonight. They have the second lowest team total on the board, as they square off against Matt Harvey in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field.

NY Mets

The Mets may not be playing in a hitter-friendly ballpark tonight, but they draw arguably the best matchup on the board. Jon Moscot has been awful in his short stint in the majors. The Mets have the eighth highest team total on the board. I am interested in all of the left-handed hitters in this lineup and may try to stack the Mets in both cash games and tournaments.

Jungmann is still looking to find his footing at the major league level. He pitched pretty well in 2015, but has a 5.23 SIERA in his first four starts this season. A matchup against the Cubs in Chicago isn’t going to help his cause. He is by far the largest underdog on the board and should be avoided in all league formats. The Cubs have one of the best offenses in baseball.

How do we not play Arrieta tonight? He is coming off of another no-hitter and now he gets to face the Brewers at home with the wind blowing in from right-center field. I didn’t think it was possible, but the Brewers are projected to score less than two runs tonight. Arrieta is by far the best pitcher in tonight’s slate and even though we have to pay a premium for him, it may very well be worth it. The only problem is that it’s tough to fit a lot of hitters from Coors Field with Arrieta.

Batter Grind Down

Milwaukee

The Brewers have the lowest team total on the board at only 1.82 runs. They do not hit right-handed pitching well and they run into the buzz saw that is Jake Arrieta. Over the last two seasons, Arrieta has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .230 wOBA.

The Yankees and Rangers were able to play last night, despite some tornado warnings in the area. Hopefully the weather will hold out tonight, as this could be a great game to target. Unfortunately, it’s not a great game to target for the pitchers. It’s always tough to predict how a pitcher’s major league debut is going to go, especially when it’s a top prospect like Jose Berrios. Vegas likes the Indians’ offense in this matchup a little bit, as they have the ninth highest team total on the board. The way I see it, both Berrios and the Twins’ offense make nice GPP play, but I’ll be avoiding both in cash games.
